Abstract
ABSTRACT
Agnes Astri Wulandari: The Role of Parents in Encouraging the Involvement of Catholic Teenagers in the Church Life Amidsts the Issue of Teen Delinquency
Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood, and during this phase, conflicts between parents and teenagers often arise. It is also a time when delinquent behaviors may happen in teenagers, such as engaging in free association, criminal activities, and defying parental authority. During this period, parents are also called upon to continue playing a role in accompanying their teenage children, including encouraging their involvement in the church life. Therefore, parents should strive to ensure that teenagers remain engaged in the church life, even amidst the challenges of adolescence. Considering that Catholic teenagers are the agents of change within the church, they are expected to provide a living testimony in the midst of the contemporary world."
This study employs a qualitative method. Data collection is conducted through structured interviews held in Rejoso Basic Ecclesial Community at the Santa Maria Parish - Blitar. The informants in this study consist of six (6) parents with teenage children (11 - 21 years old). The selection of informants employs purposive sampling technique, wherein the sampling is chosen based on those who have the most understanding of the role of parents in the issue of adolescent delinquency that can influence the involvement of Catholic teenage life in the church."
The results of this study indicate that the role of parents in encouraging the involvement of Catholic teenagers in the church life amidst the issue of adolescent delinquency is crucial. Parents play a significant role in promoting the engagement of Catholic teenagers in the church life amid the issue of adolescent delinquency by setting a good example, providing understanding, accompanying teenage children, and teaching them to actively participate in the church ministry tasks, thus establishing positive habits for Catholic teenagers.
