ABSTRACT
Yohanes Joddy Pratama: “Solidarity Principle in Gaudium et Spes and Its Relevance in the Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Era”
The COVID-19 pandemic is a situation that is being addressed by the healthcare professionals and should be adhered to by all members of the society in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease, which has spread worldwide, including in Indonesia. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted social activities within communities and has posed a challenge for individuals in term of maintaining the relationships with others through limited social interactions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The relationships within a community can be maintained if the community adheres steadfastly to the principle of solidarity and togetherness. The principle of solidarity in Gaudium et Spes (GS) is a guiding principle for living together in a multicultural society, encompassing the values that need to be developed and upheld in communal living (within groups or communities). Solidarity within the scope of the society needs to foster feelings of brotherhood, concerning with each other, care, mutual assistance, and tolerance as efforts to create a harmonious, peaceful, and prosperous condition.
This research is a qualitative literature study, which is conducted by examining a collection of references such as documents, journals, books, articles, and other scientific findings or written literature. This literature study is conducted through several stages in order to produce a scientific paper, here are the said stages include data/information collection, data analysis and presentation, drawing conclusions and recommendations from the gathered references.
The principle of solidarity in GS offers values of life such as love, unity, sociality, interdependence, and common welfare. The life values offered provide solutions for Indonesian society in addressing various issues in the community life or the phenomena occurring within the society. Its relevance in the post-COVID-19 era is that every society will continuously improve, expand, and maintain relationships among individuals or a sense of solidarity within the community, despite the phenomenon that has led to the limited community activities in Indonesia, there is still a need to foster a sense of togetherness and solidarity among the people, as long as the community continues to instill a sense of solidarity within themselves and promote values of life such as love, unity, sociality, interdependence, and shared well-being, by doing so, the community can achieve collective goodness in living together as one community.
