Dalam pandangan Gereja Katolik, keterbukaan terhadap kehidupan merupakan tujuan hakiki perkawinan yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dari hakikat kodrati dan sakramentalnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kepustakaan dengan pendekatan yuridis-teologis, mengacu pada Kitab Hukum Kanonik, Kitab Suci, ajaran Magisterium, serta pandangan para teolog Katolik. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa menurut KHK (kan. 1055 §1; 1056), penolakan mutlak terhadap keturunan bertentangan dengan tujuan dan sifat perkawinan Katolik, sedangkan secara moral, Gereja menegaskan bahwa kasih suami-istri harus total, setia, dan subur sebagaimana diajarkan dalam Gaudium et Spes, Humanae Vitae, dan Familiaris Consortio. Temuan ini menegaskan perlunya pendampingan pastoral yang intensif bagi pasangan Katolik yang mempertimbangkan pilihan childfree, agar keputusan yang diambil selaras dengan iman dan ajaran Gereja. Kata Kunci: Childfree, hukum perkawinan Katolik, moral perkawinan, Kitab Hukum Kanonik, ajaran Gereja Katolik. ============================================================ Abstract The childfree phenomenon, namely the deliberate decision of a married couple not to have children, has become a prominent moral issue amid modern social and cultural changes. In the Catholic Church’s view, openness to life is an essential end of marriage that is inseparable from its natural and sacramental nature. This study applies a literature review with a juridical-theological approach, drawing on the Code of Canon Law, Sacred Scripture, the Magisterium, and Catholic theological thought. The findings indicate that, according to the CIC (can. 1055 §1; 1056), an absolute rejection of offspring contradicts the purpose and nature of Catholic marriage, while morally, the Church teaches that marital love must be total, faithful, and fruitful as articulated in Gaudium et Spes, Humanae Vitae, and Familiaris Consortio.
