 Perkawinan Adat dan Perkawinan Gereja Katolik dalam Pandangan Masyarakat Marga Daten Di Lamahora, Kabupaten Lembata

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana masyarakat Marga Daten menghidupi tradisi perkawinan adat dan perkawinan Gereja Katolik, memahami alasan masyarakat lebih mengutamakan perkawinan adat, serta merefleksikan sikap Gereja terhadap budaya perkawinan yang hidup dalam masyarakat. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kuatnya pengaruh adat Lamaholot yang menjadikan perkawinan adat lebih diprioritaskan daripada perkawinan Gereja Katolik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap delapan responden yang terdiri dari tokoh adat, tokoh Gereja, dan anggota masyarakat marga Daten. Data dianalisis menggunakan teori perkawinan Katolik, teori relasi agama dan budaya, serta teori inkulturasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat marga Daten masih sangat menghidupi tradisi perkawinan adat sebagai bagian dari identitas budaya dan warisan leluhur. Masyarakat memahami nilai-nilai adat yang terkandung dalam perkawinan, seperti penghormatan terhadap perempuan, tanggung jawab keluarga, dan kesatuan sosial. Selain itu, mereka juga memahami perkawinan Gereja Katolik sebagai sakramen yang kudus, monogam, dan tidak terceraikan. Meskipun demikian, perkawinan adat tetap lebih diutamakan karena pengaruh budaya yang diwariskan secara turun-temurun, penghormatan kepada leluhur, legitimasi sosial melalui adat, tuntutan belis, serta keyakinan terhadap sanksi adat apabila adat dilanggar. Tradisi Gere Lango (masuk rumah) juga sering dipahami sebagai tanda sahnya penyatuan pasangan menurut adat. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa persoalan utama bukan terletak pada pertentangan antara adat dan ajaran Gereja, melainkan pada ketidakseimbangan dalam penghayatan keduanya. Oleh karena itu, Gereja perlu mengembangkan pendekatan inkulturasi melalui dialog, katekese perkawinan, pendampingan pastoral, dan kerja sama dengan tokoh adat agar nilai-nilai budaya yang positif dapat berjalan selaras dengan ajaran iman Katolik.

Religion and Culture: 
Traditional Marriage and Catholic Church Marriage from the Perspective of adnicgrup the Daten Tribal Community in Lamahora, Lembata Regency

This study aims to determine the extent to which the Daten tribal community lives out the traditions of customary (adat) marriage and Catholic Church marriage, understand the reasons why the community prioritizes customary marriage, and reflect on the Church's attitude toward the marital culture within the society. This research is motivated by the strong influence of Lamaholot customs, which cause customary marriage to be prioritized over Catholic Church marriage. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with eight respondents consisting of traditional leaders, Church figures, and members of the Daten tribal community. The data were analyzed using Catholic marriage theory, the theory of religion and culture relations, and the theory of inculturation. The results show that the Daten tribal community deeply preserves the traditional customary marriage as part of their cultural identity and ancestral heritage. The community understands the traditional values embedded in marriage, such as respect for women, family responsibility, and social unity. Furthermore, they also recognize Catholic Church marriage as a holy, monogamous, and indissoluble sacrament. Nonetheless, customary marriage remains prioritized due to cultural influences passed down through generations, reverence for ancestors, social legitimacy through custom, belis (bride price) demands, and the belief in customary sanctions if traditions are violated. The Gere Lango (entering the house) tradition is also frequently perceived as a sign of the legitimate union of a couple according to custom. This study concludes that the core issue lies not in a conflict between custom and Church teachings, but rather in an imbalance in the lived practice of both. Therefore, the Church needs to develop an inculturation approach through dialogue, marriage catechesis, pastoral guidance, and collaboration with traditional leaders so that positive cultural values can align harmoniously with the teachings of the Catholic faith.
